If you are interested in this conference and would like to receive updates, please send an email to the mailing list: chembio[at]embl.de . You will then be informed once the registration is open or new information is available. Aims Chemical Biology is a quickly growing highly interdisciplinary field, which was born out of the biologist's and chemist's common interest in chemical strategies to investigate biological questions, and has emerged to become an important and central discipline by itself. Researchers in Chemical Biology find themselves at home in both classical disciplines and make use of experimental tools that both have to offer. The conference Chemical Biology 2008 was held at EMBL Heidelberg for the first time in October 2008. With about 30 invited speakers, 20 oral presentations chosen from the abstracts, 150 posters and 250 participants, this event was an initial success. The excellent participation demonstrated the need for such an event. The organizers therefore decided to offer Chemical Biology conferences at EMBL in bi-annual intervals. The series aims to give an overview on the current status of the highly interdisciplinary field and an outlook to where the field is heading. The conference will provide a unique opportunity for scientists using diverse research approaches and methods to come together and to network. It is structured to enhance exchange and discussions between researchers, for the benefit of their own research as well as for the progress of the field. Topics The conference will cover a broad area of approaches and methods used in Chemical Biology including molecular imaging and switching tools, computational and structural approaches, screening methods, molecular engineering, and novel synthetic methods as applied to biological questions.
