Smile Aga Khan University Hospital’s 12th National Health Sciences Research Symposium

Aga Khan University Hospital’s 12th National Health Sciences Research Symposium will be held on October 24th and 25th at the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. The title of the symposium is ,” Injury in the developing World: from prevention to cure.”


This conference on the theme of “Injury in Developing Countries: from Prevention to Care” captures a broad area that would be of interest to physicians, surgeons, nurses, rehabilitation specialists, mental health providers, epidemiologists, health system specialists, disaster managers, educationists and policy makers and basic science, clinical and public health researchers.



The conference boasts over 30 invited foreign speakers from Australia, Bangladesh, Egypt, France, India, Oman, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingtom and United State representing institutions like Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland, University of Borduex, Karolinska Institute, George Institute, World Health Organization, Emergency Nursing Association (USA), International Rescue Committee, National University of Singapore, Global Forum for Health Research to name a few.



The main program has five plenary sessions and twelve concurrent sessions focusing on the relevant areas of injury and public health, clinical care of trauma patients, disaster response, health system and trauma care system, violence, mental health etc. There will be 18 plenary talks, 36 state of the art lectures, 40 oral presentations of research abstracts and about 50 poster presentations on variety of topics relevant to the theme of the conference.



Equally exciting are the wide variety of workshops before and after the conference to cater to a wide audience. For clinicians, there are workshops on topics like Decision Making in Hemorrhage Control, Ear, Nose and Laryngeal Trauma, Essential Burn Care, Obstetric Anal Sphincter injury, Intracranial Pressure Monitoring, Cardiothoracic Trauma, Early Management of Fracture and Management of Trauma: the nursing perspective.



Equally interesting are workshops with appeal for both clinicians and non-clinicians on topics like Setting up Trauma Care System in a Developing Country, Measuring the Burden of Injuries, Child Abuse, Preventing Childhood Injuries, Management of Domestic Violence, Suicide Prevention etc.



For Basic Scientists, we have organized the workshop on Fundamentals of Tissue Engineering.
