Hi dudes!

post your funny lab incidents here!

One of mine is a guy that wanted to clean his lab bench with ethanol.
He dumped tons of ethanol onto his bench and then threw a match onto the table!

The whole thing was on fire but quickly subsided due to the metal bench/lack of ethanol that burned quickly....

Props to that dude!! (cant name any names here) lol....

i was doing distillation lab and i forgot to clamp the vertical condenser....and when i lifted my hands off the condensr, the condenser fell down and broke and made a huge sound in the lab room

I usually didnt wear a lab coat it my lab, and luckily the one time I did i spilled hot agarose on my coat. Its not funny but after that I wore lab coats all the tieme!

yeah i know it is not good...but that incident made me lab experience very bad....after that, I was not able to do distillation with full confidence...everytime I hear that we r doing distillation in the lab, I get phobia and hear that condenser noise in my ears....

BUT I try to be very careful now in the labs and hopefully I don't do any mistakes now

I was doing a routine mouse dissection and realized I had forgotten something halfway through the dissection. When I came back I found a king cake baby inside my mouse. My PI was snickering not 10 feet away.

That reminds me of something that I did a few weeks ago. I did Gram staining and my crystal violet was in a big bottle which unfortunately slipped out of my hands

Can you imagine my lab coat? Fortunately I wore it then. Not only my lab coat was in a mess, but the entire place around me was violet stained!
I had to clean it with ethanol and there was so much mess I got almost drunk by inhaling the ethanol

Recall a postdoc from Europe who attempted to heat some ether over a flame (no kidding!!). Was in the next lab and heard the WHOOOSSSH!! Ran in to see the guy, now hairless, stamping out the remains of his clothing.
His name from that point on was BoomBoom.

When I was doing my undergrad microbiology prac test I flamed the neck of the ethanol bottle [twice] ever so diligently.
