Jorge, that could be any random picture from the internet... I might actually be a super hot chick who's trying to wed you via the internet or a mean old man with a passion for molecular biology.

Anyways, the supervisor was looking over my shoulder at the time and we both had to deal with the thought that we could of blown off half our faces [you know when two people look blankly at each other and think that was close]. I was still very nervous that I then did it again, and apologised profusely. [i still passed ]

A few more stories on fire danger and the smell of burnt hair...

In high school, we used to play a game and wait until someone was leaning close to the bunsen and then we'd fiddle with the sleeve and create mini atomic bomb clouds with the flame to attempt to cause serious burns to the unfortunate victims hand, sleeve, face, lab notes etc.

And there have been many incidents at home where the gas BBQ didn't light then BOOM [trims your eye lashes nicely I must say] and also fun with deodorant cans and lighters [you'd be surprised how quickly you remember lab safety rules when your friend is running towards you doing his best luke skywalker impersonation with a three foot flame]. I later became aware that there a special spray-test bottles available that don't allow suck back.

P.S. I have also attempted to debunk the old pass out with the chloroform trick that you see in the movies... I poured a whole heap into a paper towel and inhaled for a minute and it didn't work too well, but I did manage to get a little dizzy.

About the ethanol - working with cell culture we spray heaps of it around. So once, after a long day in the lab I drove to pick up my boyfriend from the airport. He got into the car, sniffed, looked at me and asked what I've been drinking

I used to work as a Lab Tech for a mining company. My labcoat was full of holes...I would handle acid while wearing gloves but then would wipe my gloved-hands on the lab coat...

I also remember one day when one of the engineers was filtering a few litres of a reddish brown solution under pressure. I don't know excatly how it happened but at some point the funnel fell and the whole area got splashed with the reddish solution. The dude wasnt splashed - fortunately..But the lab looked like someone had been mudered there!! Hilarious..But the cleaning wasnt

How do you explain it to a policeman who might pull you over?
