Default Study hours for a 1st?

Hi all,
I'm a current Junior Honours undergrad, studying a mixture of molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry. I hope to specialise in molecular biology for my senior year.
I was really just wondering, out of the graduates from the UK here, how many hours per week you studied to attain a first?
I find that although I try to think of my university course in terms of a 9-5 job, there are many distractions which occur on a day-to-day basis which disrupt this.
Also, if anyone has any ideas on how to develop my knowledge of the subject further I would appreciate the input. This is really my main reason for joining this forum, as I feel contributing (however little) to discussions will be useful to help widen my understanding of the field further from the taught course materials.
Regards,
ID

As an undergrad you are probably learning a lot of theory and less practice (as in lab technique). I suggest you become aware of the "Bible"---Maniatis, Molecular Cloning, and the (little) Red Book--Short Protocols in Molecular Biology. The protocols seem basic, now, but the background info to the techniques is very useful.

I would also suggest that if you have any interest in Protein/Proteomics work, you should take Analytical Chemistry with Lab, some schools may even have Bioanalytical Chemistry. Also pay attention in statistics class.
