Well, I heard it from a friend who did the work. He was an excellent
physical chemist by the name of Ricardo Pastor. He found it out the hard way
at Columbia University when working for Harold Urey. I believe that was in
respect to work on how heavy water affected fish. If this is really
important to you do a search using names of Urey, Pastor, and the term heavy
water.
