Nanocluster absorbance

I've been reading about the interactions of light and metallic
nanoparticles (e.g., the gold colloids of red stained glass), and I
noticed that the lambda maxes of Ag colloids are blue-shifted wrt gold
nanoparticles of the same size. Can someone explain where this difference
comes from? Can you expect the same trend into the earlier periods? Any
suggestions on what trends to expect within a period? I've only seen
papers on the preparation and characterization of gold and silver
colloids.

Aha, my brilliant-sounding friend who posts
no supportive directions to places where mere
mortals could "get up to speed" with you :-)

WRT red and blue shifting...anything to do
with the energy required to excite the sample
....or, in other words, the electronic structure
and interaction with light?

Say...which is _harder_...gold or silver?
If it's silver, then more energy required
to excite the more tightly-bound structure?

sort of like a teamsters strike. 3 :-)

Both about the same on the Moh scale.
