| I'm working with a finely crushed borosilicate glass in water for a coating experiment. The high surface area of the glass powder allow the electrical conductivity of the liquid to rise above desirable levels, due to the solubility of the boron, silica, and sodium in the frit. The current pH is around 9.2. I would like to minimize conductivity for a long time (>3 hrs) without resorting to larger particle sizes. Is there something I can add in the water to inhibit glass dissolution (through surface adsorption)? What elements in the frit would be helpful? I get into a problem below 7.5 ph because of the ppt of the binders. |

If it has to be glass powder, I'm afraid you have to live with the properties of that material. A coating might help, but that would seem to negate the purpose of your experiment. |
