Default Crystal Growth

I have an organic sulphur compound that precipitates from an aqueous
reaction solution as the hydrochloride. The ppt forms as the reaction
proceeds over 2h at room temp. Nice crystals about the consistency of common
salt form but I want to disrupt the growth so that I form very much smaller
crystals. When dry I want the final product to be a very fine powder.
What can I use to disrupt their growth?

Thanks,
Rob.

common
smaller

Any chelating agent should help
EDTA, Citric acid, Tartaric acid, PEI etc.......etc.........etc...........
With the right combination of chelating agents and polymers you should be
able to control the crystallite morphology as well as size.

Good Luck
Gregg

Crystallize from a hot low-viscosity solution, stirr during the
precipitation, inoculate with a large ammount of seeds
(and, possibly add a trace ammount - 1%- of structuraly similar
impurity)
