in cell culture media what poresize of Millipore filter is used for media sterilization.

we use 0.45 micron um filters for sterilization of media....

The protocol for media sterilization is pretty straight forward.

- Pour 40mL of your media from large stock bottle into your 50 mL disposable polypropylene tube.
- Take 20mL syringe and attach (screw on) to filter 0.45 micrometer
- Suck up 20mL of media with the syringe until full
- Slowly eject media into a FRESH 50 mL tube
- Be careful NOT to touch anything
- Suck up again 20 mL from the 1rst tube
- Eject slowly into the FRESH 50 mL
- you should now have 40 mL in the 2nd tube
- dispose of your syringe and the 1rst tube.

Sorry new to this forum, but the advice from oBWhat is wrong. A sterilising filter is a 0.22uM filter as bacteria are generally slightly larger than that. Some bacteria are smaller than 0.45uM, so will not be filtered out.
You should have 0.22uM filters on :-

Pipette guns for Tissue Culture (TC)
All TC Flask's fitted with filters ARE 0.22uM !!!!!!!!!!!!
On our Millipore water systems the water is filtered through 0.22uM !!!!!!!!
All CO2 Filters for CO2 Incubators are 0.22uM !!!!!!!!!!
HEPA filters for Class II cabinets are 0.22uM. !!!!!!!!!!!!
