Improving Cell Viability - how can we do this with cells that undergo apoptosis quickly and die? such as primary hepatocytes???

Improving viability is a large issue in Tissue Culture, try one or more of these :-

Try different TC plastics
Try attachment factors
Try different media preparations
Improve the quality of your FCS/FBS
Optimise the isolation conditions
Review any trypsinisation protocols
