Default cell maintainance

is there any cell line which can grow in low glucose (5.5mM DMEM) and can happily with stand the hypoxic enviroment, when treated with low oxygen, thanks

Hello,
most cancer cells lines eg HepG2 can survive very well on even low glucose and hypoxia for a period of time.

How long are you planning to culture them like this for: hours, days?

cheers

wel thanks a lot, but I think HepG2 grow in high glucose, any way I will give a try, we have a good batch of HepG2 cells,
I am going to do my experiment for 3days (I day in hypoxia), regards, vivek

Hello again,
Most cells do grow best in high glucose (and more quickly) however there have been several papers showing cell lines (including HepG2) can survive very long in low glucose media.
Have you looked at any hypoxia or glucose papers for cell lines?

do let us know how everything goes.

good luck

Here is one paper:

Figure 1, it was clearly demonstrated that HepG2 cells were viable in a minimal medium containing low concentration of glucose under an environment over 5% (v/v) oxygen, whereas, the cells died under an environment of less than 2% (v/v) oxygen.
