| I have a mystery plant that came up at the foot of a bonsai I bought in April. The tree is from Japan via Ohio. The mystery plant is quite small, leaves not much more than an inch. At first I thought it might be a cyclamen, but there is no tuber. The leaves grow directly from the ground in a cluster. They ae very strongly heart shaped with a sharp point, matte texture. They are shallowly toothed. The most distinctive thing is they are beautifully marbled with silver along the veins. It produces small buds which are narrowly pointed. However, I haven't seen any flowers. They seem to be cleistogamous, & produce those little balls that are typical of cleistogamous violets. Does this sound like anyone you know? I looked at some pictures of silver leafed violets. The one I have looks closest to V. walkeri, but the leaves are more sharply pointed & the silver color is more pronounced.
