Default PCR Electrophoresis

Why do we use agarose instead of PAGE (beside the fact that agarose is inexpensive)?

Default Re: PCR Electrophoresis

1) Agarose gels are easier to prepare: (electrophoresis buffer, water and agarose) vs (electrophoresis buffer, water, ammonium persulfate, acrylamide:bisacrylamide and TEMED).

2) Agarose is harmless while acrylamide and bisacrylamide are neurotoxic (they are harmless once polymerized).

3) Handling agarose gels is easier than handling PA gels

The only detrimental thing of agarose is ethidium bromide staining. I prefer silver staining which is only possible in PA gels, despite the time consumption. I must add however, that there are other less-harmful options to stain agarose gels like SYBR green, but they are a bit more expensive than EtBr.
