| Forms of active transport (such as ion pumps, endocytosis – pinocytosis and phagocytosis, exocytosis) involve mechanisms (such as specific carrier proteins for ion pumps, infolding for endocytosis, outfolding for exocytosis) which use energy in the form of ATP so that substances (ions for ion pumps, larger molecules for endocytosis, fluid droplets for pinocytosis, solid particles for phagocytosis, wastes, enzymes or other proteins for exocytosis) can be moved from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration (against the concentration gradient). Please feel free to point out my mistakes or contradictions and correct any errors. Merci beaucoup. =) |
