Default Haploid and diploid help! plz!?

So this experiment we did we used a microscope to view number of chromosomes we seen. Now the sample is a tip of an onion. Since onion is a halpoid (2n) so if i saw 5 chromosomes does that mean there is actually 10 ?

If the onion tip is of sexual cells, or haploid then all of the non sex cells have 10 chromosomes, and sex cells have 5.
