3 Microbial control questions?

1. In the General Hospital video clip, the group was being held hostage in a hotel. The doctor wanted to use alcohol to sterilize the paring knife in order to operate. Why was she wrong and what might she have used instead?

2. List the 4 types of microorganisms produce antibiotics? What would be a reason for the microorganism to naturally produce these antibiotics?

3. Doctors prescribe synergistic drug combinations. What is the purpose of such treatment?

i can help you with half of the second question :P

What would be a reason for the microorganism to naturally produce these antibiotics?
The producer will be immune to the antibiotic. The antibiotics produced will kill surrounding bacteria which are not immune to it, this reduces competition for resources such as food.

Wish i could help you more, some pretty interesting questions, hopefully someone else knows the answer cause im curious now too.
