Default Foreign Chemical Immunity?

Has anyone ever heard of the Foreign Chemical Immunity? Where certain people are immune/highly resistant to foreign chemicals, such as alcohol or pharmaceuticals?

I've heard of cases like this on the "Medical Mysteries" show, where individuals were VERY highly resistant to chemicals, and possibly even immune. These people could drink massive amounts of alcohol and never get intoxicated, and don't show reaction to pharmaceutical drugs. I can't remember the name of the "condition" but it was some sort of chemical immunity.

Does anyone know if a person is born with this, or is it some mutation/altercation of a gene and cells that causes this?
