Default Opinion on a career on Bioinformatics

Hi,

I am still an undergraduate at University of California: Riverside. We have an undergraduate concentration of Bioinformatics and Genomics at our college. I do not know much about this field and i am curious about this field. I would highly appreciate it if you guys can give your suggestion on whether to go into field or not, by taking into consideration: the future of this field, the scope in this field, and the average salary for this field.

I would highly appreciate it if I can get your input.
thanks in advance.

Bioinformatics is really taking off. Keep in mind to get paid well you will need graduate school---PhD. Bioinformatics people are very involved in software design for proteomics, biomarker discovery, clinical medical research, (instrument sales/demonstration). So consider doing grad studies at a research university linked to a big medical center. Then a postdoc or training course in epidemiology from NIH, (it sucks there, but opens a lot of doors for your career).
As far as salaries go, corporations will pay you way better than institutions.
