Storability of precasting GelRed-agarose gels

Hi all!

I have a qeustion regarding the storability of precasting-agarose gels stained with GelRed. In our lab gels (at the moment stained with EtBr) are sometimes stored for four days before being used. Has anybody information/experiences about the storage of GelRed gels? How ist the sability of these gels?

As far as I know, a gelred-agarose gel should stay good for at least a few weeks in the refrigerator if you wrap it in plastic wrap or put it in a ziplock bag with the air pressed out so it can't dry out.

Hi all!

As it looks like GelRed is not stable in the frigde in precasting gels over a periode of 5 days. We will test it now for shorter periods and I will report about the results.

Dear All,

Is there anybody who has tried to use GelRed putting directly into the wells after the sample instead of pre / post gel staining? Which way is more economical especially for a beginner without much time in a week to spend in the lab?
In case of doing post gel staining how long the GelRed staining solutions can be stored at room temperature? ( If I have time to go into the lab and try learning the methods once a week, then can I store staining solutions for weeks?)

I precast my gels with GelRed and keep them in the fridge for days to weeks. No problem, it's stable!

I found that I could not re-use the gels with gelred as oppoesed to EtBr, where I could run the same gel maybe half a dozen times.
