Default UV light

Hi
i am working in a cell culture lab in which we have put UV lamp on the top to keep the environment of the lab sterile. and usually at night we put the light on.
i would like to ask that can we go to lab directly after turning the UV light off or we should wait for sometime.
is any one have experience of such situation?

hope to get answer soon
regards

Hi
Its not a problem. You can enter immediately after the light is turned off. It is not of any risk.

also, dont leave tips and stuff (plastic) inside the hood when the uv light is on, it will eventually rotten them..

yes, no problem.

As a side note, our university actually tells the labs to not use UV lamps in their hoods mainly because they don't want to deal with the mercury disposal issues. They claim that they lose what little effectiveness they have quite soon after installation, but will continue to work long after this point.

We haven't used a UV lamp in our TC hood for several years now and no problems

Hi,

do you know if UV light can affect the composition of the ddH2O used in PCR experiments?. I have sometimes noticed a slight change of color.
Thanks in advance

nice suggestions
yes we should try to avoid the use of uv light and only rarely use it when we face more problem in lab work i.e. contemination. and with the passage of time the effictiveness of UV limp reduces so we must change them and one other important point is that it is good to use UV light in dark as there are chances of reversal of mutation in microbes if they expose to light.
i dont know whether UV light effect ddH2O or not, so need some more coments from a person who have practical experience.
regards
aftab

Hi,

I have a problem with UV lamps in my PCR-Lab. I am not sure about the suitable wavelength, because the UV light are changing the colour of different plastic devices. We leave the UV lamp turned on all the night.
Any suggestion?

Thanks

Hi Aftabac,
As far as I know, UV light has no effect on ddH2O....Don't worry!

Hi
Thanks Mr Donna for your comments
well i think 2 hours UV exposure is enough to sterile the environment, so i think it should be avoided to turn it on overnight as it will decrease the potency of UV lamp and also its life.
regards
aftab
