I've been thinking about getting an ebook reader to read my scientific papers on, instead of printing them out like I do know (I'll probably save half a forest every year). I figure now's the time to get one, seeing as the release of the ipad is forcing ebook readers down in price. I was wondering if anyone has some experience with using ebook readers for this purpose. My main concern is the display of images - I've heard rumors that some ebook readers do not display images in PDF, or do so poorly. I was hoping someone has used a read for this purpose, and could comment on how good/bad their reader is for scientific papers. Thanx Bryan

Hi Warthaug, This sounds like a really good idea. I would consider how well you absorb information from a screen normally before you do it. Some people find it difficult or more tiring reading from screen than they do paper. Hope it works out for you though!

I got the newer sony reader - it supports highlights and note-taking. Not much harder to read than regular paper, although the touch screen does glare once in a while. My wife just got a non-touch ebook reader (i.e. one that uses eInk); sometimes its hard to tell that you're reading a screen instead of an actual book on hers. Bryan

Hi, for me it was not so easy to read pdf papers on my ebook (cybook gen3 6"). However, I think I finally found a good solution: I convert pdf files into mobipocket files with the mobipocket reader or creator (both of them free programs) and then (when need it) convert the mobipocket file into a epub file with calibre (another program). It seems to be complicate but it is really easy, as easy as printting the paper... After trying other programs and formats that was the best (my ebook reader can work directly with mobipocket files so for me is even easier...) Good luck,
