A global search is being conducted for a Manager of Discovery Research for ArborGen, LLC. This individual will manage the company’s trait discovery program, collaborative research initiatives, and play a key leadership role in developing and evaluating potential products for commercialization. As ArborGen’s discovery program has evolved, increased focus has been placed on wood quality characteristics. We seek a scientist who will be the ‘creative engine’ for product development from a transgenic perspective and lead the company’s trait discovery program including stress, growth and wood quality. In addition, the new Manager of Discovery Research will guide ArborGen in establishing methodologies to assess economically important wood qualities and characteristics. Further, the Manager of Discovery Research will manage collaborative research ventures with third parties in academia and the broader research community.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Manager of Discovery Research will manage a group of Senior Scientists, an operating budget, and monies for external research contracts. The new Manager of Discovery Research will possess a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, be a respected leader with a minimum of 10 years of experience in an academic, government-sponsored research, independent research or commercial research setting, possess extensive experience in and understanding of the mechanisms of wood or vascular cell development, and possess a track record of successfully managing research initiatives and programs.
