| Department Head and Professor Department of Plant Sciences The University of Arizona Tucson, Arizona Position Description: The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences invites applications and nominations for the position of Head of the Department of Plant Sciences and Professor. The Department of Plant Sciences, in addition to serving the agricultural industry of the state of Arizona, has extensive collaborative interactions with faculty in the biological sciences across the University. The department consists of 40 faculty members who reside on the main campus in Tucson and at several off-campus experimental stations located elsewhere in the state. The department is also home to the University of Arizona Campus Herbarium, the largest herbarium in the southwest. Strong innovative, interdisciplinary leadership in an academic environment is being sought to lead the Department in the areas of extension, research, and teaching. The candidate should have established scholarly credentials in an area that could be considered a part of a contemporary inter-disciplinary department of plant sciences, including agronomy, biochemistry, botany, controlled environment agriculture, genetics, genomics, horticulture, molecular and cellular biology, plant microbe-interactions, plant-insect interactions, plant physiology or development. The successful candidate will be encouraged to maintain an extension, research, or teaching program. The department is seeking an individual who is able to work with diverse students and colleagues, and who has experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives. Qualifications: A Ph.D. is required, preferably in one of the above fields or areas of study. Strong evidence of managerial and leadership abilities, the capacity to articulate a vision for the Department, and a strong appreciation for diversity and for the land-grant mission are essential. Salary: The salary will depend upon qualifications and experience.
