| Colleagues, Once again the University of Missouri-Columbia will be holding an NSF-funded summer research internship program for TEN undergraduates in the area of plant genomics. The application deadline for students is Tuesday, February 10, 2004. More information and applications can be found at: [Only registered users see links. ] Research areas include: genome organization, gene expression, signal transduction, hormone action, organelle biochemistry, disease resistance, and crop plant productivity. Genomics approaches to understanding these problems include: genetic and physical mapping, multiple methods for functional analysis, and bioinformatics. Eighteen faculty members serve as mentors. The 8-week program provides a stipend, room & board, transportation to Columbia, and other benefits. Students are part of a larger undergraduate research community (numbering over 70) and will attend evening seminars, brown bag lunches, speciality discussions, and field trips. Topics will include career opportunities, scientific ethics, communicating science, and research discoveries. Field trips to the Danforth Plant Sciences Center and Monsanto in St. Louis are planned. The program concludes with a poster symposium and luncheon. Please pass this information along to undergraduates. Questions can be directed to Dr. Linda Blockus ([Only registered users see links. ], 573-882-5979) or Dr. Karen Cone ([Only registered users see links. ]). -- Cheers, Mannie ************************************************** ***************** Mannie Liscum Associate Professor Co-Director of Graduate Studies Division of Biological Sciences 108C Tucker Hall University of Missouri Columbia, MO 65211 email: [Only registered users see links. ] office:573-882-2672; 108C Tucker Hall lab 1:573-882-2675 ;108 Tucker Hall lab 2: 573-884-2257; 109 Tucker Hall mobile: 573-999-1658 fax: 573-882-0123 web page: [Only registered users see links. ] "The ending is just the beginning.
