| UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN The University of Cape Town invites applications for the following two posts in the bioinformatics node that is situated in the Institute of Infectious Diseases and Molecular Medicine at the University of Cape Town, and which forms part of the National Bioinformatics Network (NBN) in South Africa. There is no requirement for applicants to be conducting research in the medical field. Scientific Director We invite applications for this renewable two-year contract position at the level of Associate Professor. As the successful candidate, you will hold a Ph.D. in bioinformatics or a related field and have an established track record in bioinformatics. Experience in the informatics of high throughput data, including microarray data, would be an advantage. You will head the bioinformatics node and will be a dynamic leader in the field capable of setting direction and inspiring a team to achieve in that direction. As a primary responsibility, you will perform your own bioinformatics research, raise external funding for support of ongoing research, and ensure that core bioinformatics capacity is developed in the node. The annual remuneration package will be up to a level of R350,000, depending on qualification and experience. Node Manager We invite applications for this renewable two-year contract position. As the successful candidate, you will hold a post-graduate degree in bioinformatics or a related field. Experience in project and financial management, human resource organization, and bioinformatics training will be an advantage. You will work closely with the Scientific Director. As a primary responsibility, you will ensure that the bioinformatics node functions smoothly and that the node effectively addresses the bioinformatics service and training needs of the University, liaise with other nodes in the NBN, and establish and co-ordinate teaching and capacity development initiatives in the node. The annual remuneration package will be up to a level of R300,000, depending on qualification and experience.
