Bioinformatics positions at the University of British Columbia

with interests in plant biology are urged to apply. Ample opportunity exists
for collaboration with UBC plant biologists in the UBC Department of Botany,
Biotechnology Laboratory, Centre for Plant Research, and Faculty of
Forestry, as well as with large scale forestry and plant genomics projects
funded by Genome Canada at UBC/Vancouver and throughout Canada and with a
vibrant bioinformatics community in Vancouver, Canada.

FIVE BIOINFORMATICS FACULTY POSITIONS

VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA

The University of British Columbia is launching a major bioinformatics
initiative and invites applications for five new faculty positions in this
field. These full-time tenure-track positions will be filled primarily at
the Assistant Professor level but exceptional candidates at a more senior
level who are interested in providing leadership for this initiative are
also encouraged to apply. These five new faculty will be located within the
new Bioinformatics Centre (opening summer 2004) at the centre of campus
offering an exceptionally collaborative environment.

UBC has deep research strength across the Life Sciences, Physical Sciences
and Computation, including its research hospitals and its formal
associations with the British Columbia Cancer Agency, Genome British
Columbia, the Genome Sciences Centre and the Institute for Systems Biology
in Seattle. Researchers thus enjoy numerous opportunities for stimulating
and productive collaborations. Opportunities exist to attract substantial
research funding from government (e.g. Canadian Institutes for Health
Research, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada,
Canadian Foundation for Innovation), foundations (e.g. Michael Smith
Foundation, Genome Canada) and industry. UBC is also launching a major
proteomics initiative.

All facets of bioinformatics, from software development to innovative
applications in genomics or proteomics, will be considered. Successful
applicants will have demonstrated outstanding research strength and
creativity in fields relevant to bioinformatics (life sciences, computer
science or statistics), have several years productive experience, and be
prepared to integrate their expertise with innovative researchers at the
University. Academic appointments could be within or between departments in
the Faculties of Medicine and/or Science.
