Default What does rabies do to cells to cause death?

Especially in the brain. Does it cause cell death or does it cause nerve signals to misfire?

I understand that it undergoes replication but does it kill the cells in the brains? Why does the brain undergo inflammation? (is this second line of defense?)

Please help me!!!

As I remember (and please correct me if I am wrong), rabies is a naked virus which means it does not have a lipid envelope. As these kind of viruses usually lyse the infected cells to be released, my guess is that the massive cell lysis at the brain causes the short circuit as well as the inflammation.
