Your'e asking how to differentiate between whether a cell is dying, undergoing senescence or aging?

-caspase-1 and other caspase genes are good for measuring stress and death and apoptosis. you can do western blots for those genes in different conditions to see what kills them. or you can run qPCR for mRNA level changes in the cells after different stressful conditions.

-detect ROS in the mitochondria and cytoplasm can also tell you about the aging and stress or death levels. you can buy fluorescent probes that bind to free floating oxygen species. checkout MitoSOX Red, or H2DCF-DA probes from invitrogen that you can stain and measure fluorescent intensity levels on a fluorescent microscope

-simple trypan blue for cell viability

-monitoring cell growth either by visual inspection or counting number of cells in a plate. if the cells don't appear to be growing then that's an easy way to see if they are undergoing senescence.
