Default Why does Programmed Cell Death/Apoptosis occur in Drosophila Salivary Glands?

In Drosophila/Calliphora etc embryo's (maggots) why does cell death occur?

In particular, why does it occur in the salivary glands, and where in particular?

In terms of the alimentary canal, where would you expect cell death to be most visible (foregut, midgut, hind gut) ?

Many thanks for your help, starting to struggle with my degree now!
