Default Cells can initiate their own death?

Cells can initiate their own death. One wy this happens is when mitochondria release cytochrome c from the intermembrane space into the cytosol of the cell. Cytochrome c is a normal important protein in the mitochondria, but it triggers cell death in the cytoplasm. The release of this compound is an example of what?

a. selective permeability
b. pinocytosis

Default Re: Cells can initiate their own death?

Hi LHR32,
While the intrinsic apoptosis take place, the outer mitochondrial membrane permability is disrupted and several molecules present in the intermembrane space will migrate to the cytoplasm. Cytochrome C is one of these molecules. So the answer is selective permeability.
Pinocytosis is rather a kind of "fluidic phagocytosis".
Hope this helps,
