Serum free or not

Hi,
I would like to have some help here.I have been trying to compare protein expression in granulosa cells with some cytokines.My confusion is, the desirable protein is known to increase under oxidative stress,as serum free causes oxidative stress,should i do a overnight serum free period or not before i add the cytokines.
