Default Independent celled organisms

Maybe this is the wrong place to ask, but I have heard that there are worms and other multi-celled organisms that act as if they are single celled. i.e. they can be dissected or basically chopped into multiple pieces and each piece will continue to live. Is this fact or fiction?
Thanks
D
