Default Misterious missing band

Im new to running gels so forgive me if there is a really ovious answer. I recently loaded a gel with sample 1 in lane one followed by sample 1 diluted 1/10 in lane 2. Lane two had a band but lane one did not. How could a band be seen in lane 2 and not in lane 1?? Ive previously loaded this same sample 1 undiluted and it did result in a band. Im worried that its something to do with the way im putting the sample into the well? If it doesnt hit the bottom will it not migrate??
