2-d gel

Hi everyone,
Although its a silly question but i really need all of your help. i have just shifted from 7cm strip to 17 cm IPG strip. everything is going on fine but i am not able to handle the large gel after 2nd dimension. i broke the gel into so many pieces while transferring it from the plate into the fixative solution. i have never dealt with such large gells please help me how should i go about it.
