sequence alignment and scoring matrix

hi,
I'm PhD student, huda, working in sequence alignment field ut with non biological sequenc.

I would like the relationship between the alignment algorithm and scoring matrix.

is coring matrix necessary even with non biological sequence, I have no strong background in this field.
So, need more information about this regard.

is there anybody know link of general sequence alignment for any sequences not for biological.

any information may help me.
